First Puppy Bo, Super Salesman, Lends a Paw for National Canine Cancer Foundation.

Jun 10, 2009 – The offer was made and contracts were signed. Bo, the First Puppy of the United States, or at least a fictional version of the White House pooch, agreed to promote the National Canine Cancer Foundation by using social media to triumph his new “pet project,” ridding the world of Cancer in dogs. One of every three dogs is affected by Cancer.
Bo wrote blogs twice a week (http://bothefirstpuppy.wordpress.com) . “I know you people things get Cancer,” Bo barked on his blog. “And it is very devastating. But my four-legged friends need your help, too,” he added.
Bo set up a Twitter account and chose his 140 character messages carefully. He only needed 33 characters to say,”Send in 5 to help keep dogs alive.” That left him plenty of room to give the web address of the canine Cancer non-profit: www.wearethecure.org
After two weeks of blogging and sending tweets (messages) on Twitter, donations to the National Canine Cancer Foundation increased noticeably. “It was one of our best weeks,” said Gary Nice, President/CEO, National Canine Cancer Foundation, Inc. “One out of every five donations was the result of the promotion,” Nice added.
The National Canine Cancer Foundation is dedicated to eliminating Cancer as a major health issue for dogs. The organization funds grants to Cancer researchers who are working to save lives, find cures, and devise better treatments and accurate, cost effective diagnostic methods in dealing with canine Cancer.
A tie-in promotion that pictured Bo’s face on a wristwatch from Obama Watches, along with his catch phrase “In Bones We Trust.” increased sales of the for-profit Obama Watches Company over 200%. The Bo The First Puppy watch (www.obamawatches.com) also features two pink paw prints to signify that 10% of the profits will be donated to the canine Cancer organization.
“I think the Bo promotion introduced a lot of new people to the National Canine Cancer Foundation,” said Mr. Nice. “We’re very thankful for all the donations and we couldn’t have found a better spokes-dog than Bo, ” he added.
